At times, we understand that circumstances change and you may need to adjust the delivery address when it has been shipped. While there is no guarantee that you will be able to change the address once it's been shipped, you can at least try and give it a shot. Nevertheless, here's how you can attempt to change it and some helpful tips.

Understanding The Process

Different couriers have different policies. Some might allow a change of address after it's been shipped and some might not. So it is normal, for some to reject this request or be unable to provide you with a solution and some might completely accept this request.

Before we can jump into the topic, it is important to understand how the shipment works. This will help you understand why some shipments might be possible to change the address and some might not.

Usually, once a shipment has been shipped, it follows a specific route to its destination. This might include some checkup points, sorting facilities, and warehouses.

When can you change the delivery address?

Typically, changing the delivery address once it's shipped or in transit is a hassle for the couriers. That is why you can only modify the address before the package is shipped or in transit. After it is already shipped or in transit, most couriers will usually refuse the option to change its delivery address. Some might even charge you an extra price or cost or some might suggest you finish the shipment and order a new shipment. However, listed below are some possible scenarios and what to do when you are experiencing it:

Pre-shipment

This is when you catch the error or you want to change the delivery address before the package is shipped. In this stage, there is a high possibility that you can change your delivery address because nothing has been shipped. Usually, in this stage, no additional fees are made if it is within the same city or country depending on how far it is from the original location.

Carrier Hold

Some shipping services or couriers offer you to place a hold on the shipment at a local facility. This will allow you to request a new delivery service or even make a new order. However, this usually requires additional fees.

Package Intercept Service

Please note that not all couriers have this type or form of service. But those couriers that do, usually charge an additional fee. This service enables you to redirect the shipment to a new address. This also depends on the shipment, which tends to be very costly.
