Canada Post Tracking Number package tracking

Quick answers

  • Common formats: 16 digits 5035144199183281 or 13 characters like LM123456789CA
  • Where to find: receipt, shipping label, order confirmation email, or your store account
  • No results yet: new labels often show data only after the first scan, usually within 24-48 hours
  • Lost number: only the sender can provide it; Canada Post does not look up numbers by name or address
  • Multiple parcels: paste several numbers on separate lines in Ship24 to check all at once

What does a Canada Post tracking number look like?

Most codes follow one of two patterns. Spaces may appear on labels for readability, but should be entered without spaces online.

  • 16 digits: 5035 1441 9918 3281 → enter as 5035144199183281
  • 13 characters: LM123456789CA, CX987654321CA

The 13-character format starts with two letters, followed by nine digits, and ends with a country code such as CA.

Where to find your tracking number

  • Retail receipt: printed at the bottom of the slip
  • Shipping label: located near the barcode
  • Order confirmation email: many stores include a link or the code itself
  • Store account: check order history for shipment details

Canada Post does not retrieve numbers based on personal details. If you cannot find the code, ask the sender or the store.

How to use the tracking number

On the Canada Post website

  1. Open the Track page on canadapost-postescanada.ca
  2. Paste the tracking number from your receipt or email
  3. Click Track to view the latest scan and expected date

On Ship24

  1. Go to Ship24 and use the search field at the top
  2. Paste one code or several codes on separate lines
  3. Click Search to see scans across Canada Post and partner carriers

Tip: batch paste lets support teams check many orders in one go during busy periods.

Common input mistakes

  • Mixing the letter “O” with the digit 0
  • Dropping the final “CA” in 13-character codes
  • Leaving spaces before or after the code
  • Using an old code from a previous order

Why a valid number might show no updates

It is common for a new label to show only “electronic information submitted” until the first scan. Gaps also happen between facilities or while moving across borders.

  • New label: allow 24–48 hours for the first scan
  • Cross-border leg: the next event may be customs or arrival in the destination country
  • Peak periods: scans may appear later than usual
  • Still no data: ask the sender to confirm the code or open an investigation after the expected date passes

Related numbers

  • Delivery Notice Card number: 15 digits printed on a pickup card. Enter it online to see pickup details.
  • Reference number: Created by the sender for their own system. Not a universal substitute for a tracking code.

Using Ship24 with Canada Post codes

  • Detects handoffs to other carriers automatically
  • Shows consistent wording across postal and express partners
  • Lets staff batch check many codes at once

Troubleshooting quick guide

Problem Try this
No record found Remove spaces, confirm final letters, and try again after 24–48 hours
Old order number Check the order date and ask the store to confirm the current code
Only one early event Wait for the acceptance scan or the next border update
Delivered but nothing received Check property, lockers, or concierge. If still missing, ask the sender to open a claim

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I track by name, address, or phone number?

No. Only the sender or store can give you the code. Canada Post does not provide lookups by personal details.

Do spaces or lowercase letters matter?

No. Spaces are ignored and letters can be typed in any case as long as the order is correct.

Is a 16-digit code always from an online label?

Most online labels use 16 digits, but some store-printed labels do too. Enter the digits as they appear.

Will a tracking number speed up delivery?

No. It only provides visibility. Choose faster services when shipping if speed matters.

How many codes can I check at once on Ship24?

You can paste several on separate lines to see them in one search.

What if my 13-character code doesn’t end with CA?

End letters can vary by origin. If Canada Post handles the last leg, Ship24 can still show the events.
